Sustainable
Hotel

When is a hotel sustainable? Who hasn't seen them, the little signs in hotels that say something like "We are a sustainable hotel. Therefore, for the sake of the environment, we ask you to use multiple towels." Or the breakfast corner with a 10% organic section and the promise that regional products have been purchased for guests - without being transparent about where the food actually comes from and how it has travelled.

Is that enough to be considered a sustainable hotel? Not in our opinion. Because only those who think outside the box and constantly strive for higher standards can offer their guests a holistic sustainable experience in the hotel. We don't just want to talk the talk, we want to live this philosophy. We are firmly convinced of the feasibility of our endeavour, as it primarily contributes to the environment (in the broader sense). With the Cause we care and Swisstainable programmes, the Hotel Euler is committed to continuously optimising its sustainability measures. Read below to find out what we are already doing.

Let's make joint Ventures

Cause we care

  • Cause we care ecological waste management Kenya

"Cause we care" - let's do things together: As part of the myclimate "Cause We Care" initiative, we are giving you the opportunity to make an effective contribution to climate protection and sustainability together with us by making a voluntary contribution. With CHF 3 per overnight stay, you support our sustainability measures and offset the CO2 emissions of your stay. In return, we promise to double the contribution. Part of the amount will be used to support an ecological waste management project in Kenya. This means you will have a climate-neutral holiday. The remaining amount will be invested by us in sustainability measures on site or in operational sustainability.

Current Measures

Hotel Euler embraces Responsibility

  • We pay equal salaries for women and men for comparable work.
  • We refrain from interim work and work on call that puts employees at risk or does not respect the LGAV.
  • We maintain flat work hierarchies to motivate employees to take on more responsibility. We believe that both guests and employees are happier when everyone is given maximum autonomy.
  • We maintain partnerships with regional companies, restaurants and producers.
  • We offer barrier-free access to our meeting rooms and hotel rooms.
  • Our hotels are located near public transport so that our guests can make use of it.
  • We co-operate with SBB and are able to issue tickets ourselves and make them available to our guests.
  • CO2 reduction: Engagement with HotellerieSuisse to save fossil fuels and electricity, with the aim of reducing CO2 emissions in accordance with an agreement with the Swiss Confederation for the period from 2013 to 2020.
  • Where possible, we favour bulk packaging rather than individual items in order to reduce packaging (soap, cleaning products, breakfast products, etc.).
  • Where possible, we work with large glass surfaces in our refurbishments to reduce electric lighting.
  • We use LED lamps in our hotels, as these are currently the most environmentally friendly light sources.
  • Cleaning of towels during the stay only at the request of the guest.
  • Possibility for guests to cancel the cleaning service and thus benefit from a price reduction.
  • Separation of waste (compost, paper, aluminium, plastic, glass...) wherever possible.
  • Insulation of the façade to improve heat and noise insulation, as well as generally generous insulation of all structural elements.
  • UV protection film on all windows and in all hotels of the Manz Privacy Hotel Group.
  • Euler Basel / City Inn Basel: free charging for electric cars.
  • Rooms do not consume energy when there are no guests.
  • Promotion of tap water quality and use of water carafes instead of PET bottles.
  • Handling correspondence electronically wherever possible.

Manz Privacy Hotels have always been passionate about pioneering technology and sophisticated about often unusual services. And so digitalisation is not just a buzzword at Manz Hotels, but part of our philosophy. We create synergies and added value for business travellers and private travellers and ensure carefree stays and sustainable success.

  • Free Wi-Fi in the entire hotel area: A high-performance Wi-Fi enables our guests to stream films and music quickly.
  • We offer digital conferencing in the conference and event area.
  • Digital check-in and check-out. You can complete your check-in with all registration data before your arrival via smartphone or PC. You can use the QR code or your hotel reservation number to encode your room card at the hotel and then simply sink into the many pillows in your room. And if you want, you can also check out again digitally.
  • Security: To ensure that digitalisation remains exciting and does not become a risk for data and personal information, we have taken appropriate precautions. We use the security solutions of our partners HotelPlus, Six Payments and Code2Order.
  • Manz Privacy Hotels will continue to work on digital solutions with the best security precautions in order to offer you the best and most innovative solutions for your stay in the future.

Together with the Vattel hotel management school, we are developing further measures for the sustainability of our hotels and are endeavouring to complete these with a global certificate. Manz Privacy Hotels aims to have completed this process by the end of 2022.

The "Cités de l'énergie" (Energy Cities) were launched in 2001 by the SuisseEnergie programme with a view to creating a "platform for an intelligent energy policy". They promote the use of renewable energies, environmentally friendly mobility and the sustainable use of resources. Basel is one of 313 energy cities in Switzerland.

The city of Basel was awarded the European Energy Award® Gold label for its commitment to a sustainable energy future. This label is awarded to the best "pupils" of the Swiss "Cités de l'Energie" label. These cities have implemented at least 75% of the plan to which they have committed themselves.
